:: i forgot ::
I think in June or July - Gosh I even forget because I have been wearing this for a while now and I absolutely love it,it's just I didn't have a chance to snap a better picture of it. So enjoy what I have for now. (Thanks DH for taking this one anyway).
The behind story about it...
For this one I must thank an anonymous commenter on my blog, show pointed me toward a German lady's magazine (probably like Marie Claire here) it's named Fur Sie. Don't know how or on what basis, but that particular magazine comes out every 2 weeks and they started having knitwear patterns, which are more knock-offs to the public, they are free and available to download to public online. Here is the combo of their summer patterns available in a pdf on their site. And their knock-off collection from 2006. Poke around and you will find so much more! Only they are in German... I use google language tool for that reason.
But whatever makes one happy, not paying market price for the well-marketed brand name. The quality lies in your hands as long as you posses the skill!
Overwhelmed.. I purged through my stash and made a decision on the one I would like to make and wear this summer. I happen to have quite a bit of Karabella Zodiac for something else I got from Yarnbow a year ago, but it was the colorways I needed, so I made that justification, if stash yarn hasn't been used for a year, it's never going to be knit up in the original plan or might as well use it for something else.
This was straightly a commute knit again, took 4 days.
Yes, it's Gianfranco Ferre original(RIP his soul), Fur Sie Pattern and the one made by me from that pattern.

Karabella Zodiac , 100% cotton and US 7 addis.
7 skeins in white and one skein in sapphire.
Mods: Only made collar a bit smaller/shorter. Easy pattern.
Fur Sie also had the another GFF Pullover Pattern in, but I should say the knock-offs and versions started popping out EVERYWHERE people. Each Picture is linked to it's Pattern.

Famous Pringle of Scotland Aran Sweater has been knocked off for 2 seasons now.
To start with Victorias Secret Selling it for starters as a garment. And talented Svetlana knocking it off straight from the picture first. Then Miss Twiss making hers into a cardigan.

And there are sooo much more, I just can't remember or recollect more where I have seen stuff, you if know, you can comment so I will keep adding to the list of patterns. There is something about Runway/Fashion that enslaves us and makes those object to desire. Afterall it is an inspiration to many and with many more to come.
P.S.
Hub recently re-discovered a knitting related song..LOL

great post jazzy girl! has anyone knocked off my beloved balenciaga yet? i have kept my eyes open but haven't found it. maybe i'll have to finally break down and do it myself
; )
Ooh, thanks for the Fur Sie link! I've been loving the Pringle sweater for a while, and even downloaded Miss Twiss' pattern. Yup, I'm a slave to fashion!
Ah, I need to learn German! :D
The Pringle of Scotland sweater is also pictured in the new Lion Brand catalogue for fall and the Patternworks catalogue for fall. So you know it has made the rounds.
I really do love how well your Gianfranco Ferre knockoff turned out. The quality certainly lies in your hands.
Kim and I are going to start learning German now. I love that strange open weave-y white vest/top/tank with the wide neck!
yes, my first thought was Great Post! it's so nice to see runway inspired sweaters.
love your Ferre sweater especially the navy at the back. it all looks so crisp and fresh.
wow...lovely all...i admired your work. Hi from Chili.
i love the balenciaga! i think i need a german penpal. knitlit kate--make it make it. :)
Fantastic links!! I am loving the horizontal cables across the chest. I just posted a sweater from Bluefly based on the same horizontal cable concept. I'm coming up with my own pattern to knock it off as we speak...er, type!
I love your sweater! And thanks for the links. The knock off stuff is getting a little crazy. ;) I'm inspired by it, but I'm not sure I would want to make something exactly the same as a famous design. Still, it's really cool to see how resourceful we knitters are :)
great post!! thanks for the round up of all these patterns, and your thoughtful insights into why we're so drawn to them (I mean, besides the fact that they're beautiful). :)
Thanks for the link!
If you want to destroy my sweater..whoa, wo woa!, pull this thread, as I walk awaaaay!
Weezer is awesome!
The Weezer Sweater song is my ringtone for when any of my knitter girls call. Funny!
wow! love the sweater. i can't seem to find the pattern to your GFF sweater though. Can you point me in the right direction?
It still amazes me how fashion works though - how one sweater can just set off the domino effect all the way down to lion brand! How I would love to be the designer of that one sweater one day!
You know, as I recall, that one also looks SO pretty on me. Almost as pretty as it does on you. Don't look the other way when I come over next time :D wink wink
Hi, great minds think alike, it seems ;-) I had some fun tracking down the Pringle sweater knockoffs too and I listed them on my blog (it's in French but you can follow the links or check the pictures). I found 14 so far.

The Gap has knocked it off too - they call it the Trapeze Sweater. It's out of stock but there's a picture of it here: http://www.stylehive.com/save/Women-Womens-Cableknit-trapeze-sweater-Tops-New-Arrivals--Gap-770947
